July is peak summer here: open swim at the pool, long evenings at the ballfields, fireworks for the Fourth, and the biggest week on the calendar when the Dodge County Free Fair rolls into nearby Kasson. Celebrating the Fourth
Dodge Center keeps the Fourth low-key and neighborly. For the big fireworks show, most families make the short drive to Rochester, about 20 minutes east.
Independence Day Fireworks in Rochester
Rochester’s free fireworks light up the sky over Soldiers Field on Saturday, July 4, with the display starting around 10 p.m. Experience Rochester is organizing “4th Fest: Rochester Celebrates America” with live music, food trucks, and family activities beforehand, and the Rochester Community Band plays a free July 4 concert at Cascade Lake Park. Bring lawn chairs and a blanket, leave the pets at home, and arrive early for parking.

The month’s headliner, about 10 miles north in Kasson. Minnesota’s oldest county fair (since 1858) packs in 4-H and open-class exhibits, carnival rides, fair food, a beer garden, free-stage entertainment, and grandstand shows. Dodge Center’s parks are the heart of summer here. The pool and ballfields stay busy all July, and there is plenty of green space for a picnic or a pickup game.
Natalie Webb Family Aquatic Center
The city pool at 509 1st Ave NE on the east side of North Park, with zero-depth entry, a water slide, two diving boards, and a concession stand. Open swim runs roughly noon to 7 p.m. daily, with the food court open noon to 6 p.m.; Red Cross swim lessons (ages 4 and up) are offered Monday through Thursday. The big one: baseball and softball fields, tennis and volleyball courts, a playground, and walking and biking trails, plus the aquatic center. Open green space makes it the go-to spot for ball games, family gatherings, and an evening walk.

An 18-hole public course at 18187 County Road 34, open to everyone, with a driving range and an event space. The Bar & Grill opens daily at 7 a.m. for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and is a local favorite for burgers, with a deck overlooking the 18th hole. A community hub since 1968.

Triton Public Schools serves Dodge Center, Claremont, and West Concord, and its Community Education office runs summer youth activities and community classes (summer hours Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.). The city’s Red Cross swim lessons at the aquatic center are another popular pick for kids.
